I'm currently reading Seven Days In the Art World, by Sarah Thornton, perhaps most well known for her book about sub-cultural capital and the rave scene. I have enjoyed reading Sarah Thornton's insightful freelance pieces on the art world for quite some time, so you can imagine my delight when her new book, Seven Days in the Art World, was published. Felix Salmon passes judgment on Seven Days in the Art World. Ok, so this book presents a contemporary look at the 'art world' as we know it today and not so much in seven days (as the title would suggest) but in seven different aspects that make up the collective of the art world. I just read Seven Days in the Art World by Sarah Thornton and found it both a fascinating read and food for thought. Sarah Thornton is a writer and arts journalist best known for her 2008 ethnography 'Seven Days in the Art World', which drifted wryly through studios, colleges, Art Fairs and auction houses. As part of my art gallery management class I'm starting to read Seven Days in the Art World by Sarah Thornton. Sarah Thornton, author of Seven Days in the Art World, dramatically announced her withdrawal from the art world with an article in TAR magazine titled 'Top 10 reasons not to write about the art market'. One useful way of reading Seven Days In The Art World is as an artistic variant on Marshall McLuhan's notion that "culture is our business, and business is our culture."
